  • Louise brings a beautiful sense of peace and confidence when you meet her. A wealth of knowledge from her previous work, she's a beautiful blend of "how it was done" to "how it should be". Working with Louise I had great confidence in my choice of a home birth, and knew that she would always be honest and open with me during the processes. I wasn't disappointed! Louise has great wisdom to share, and with her ever-present aura of tranquility she'll be the most incredible support during your labour, as she was for mine. I am eternally grateful to her and cherish having her in my life. I initially met Lucie for breastfeeding support. Not sure what to expect (maybe the "do this and that", what I didn't expect was how beautiful and powerful Lucie and her work is! Lucie helped me see breastfeeding for more than what it's portrayed to be (latch on and latch of), but a sacred, beautiful, and inspiring coming together of Mother and child. It's own spiritual awakening. Lucie brings such depth to her work and shares the beauty of this primal and precious act. She is so much more than what techniques to try - she inspired you as a mother to connect and rejoice in this wondrous moment. Together these two women are going to transform the lives of many families who are taking the first step in growing their family, as well as those who already have children but now want to proceed in the way birth is supposed to be - authentic, beautiful, divine, connecting. A successful mix of experience, spirituality, curiosity, authenticity, belief in the power of intuition and supporting families in trusting that they know what they need. Louise and Lucie have brought beauty, power, connection and family back to pregnancy and birth, reminding us of the wonder of this right of passage. I had a water birth at home with a very long labour (30 hours!). I've been asked a few times what kept me going and not decide to go to the hospital for pain relief and possible other intervention. I realised that even though I would have loved some pain relief at the time (I was so sore and so tired), it was the unwavering strength, gentleness and belief in my abilities which Louise and Lucie held for me which gave me the strength to continue with what I knew innately was the right way to birth my baby. I am forever grateful to these two special women, and feel blessed to have them in my life.

  • TWO AMAZING LADIES AND FREE BIRTH

    As a new granny, I was privileged to attend the birth of my first grandchild recently. Under the watchful and loving eyes of Louise and Lucie, my daughter was empowered to listen to her body and, with no need for medical intervention, powered through a long labour and safely birthed a perfect, healthy baby boy ( 40 weeks). 

    Having had 4 babies of my own ( all girls and a set of twins...all full term and, albeit in hospital, with no injections, drips or pain-blockers), I was in awe and humbled by the process my daughter was lovingly, calmly, patiently and gently mentored through. 

    Louise and Lucie are enabling women to embrace free ( without medical intervention) home births, with good education leading up to birthing and excellent care and assistance afterwards. I admire their humility in accepting that if medical intervention and hospitalisation is needed, they would not hesitate to facilitate this too. 

    My gratitude knows no bounds. These two wonderful ladies made my daughter, her husband and my ( sideline) experience indescribably beautiful. I would highly recommend their care to everyone who wants a free birth at home.

  • I was so fortunate to have had the closing of the bones ceremony gifted to me by a dear friend <3

    Lucie came home to me and made my space peaceful and ready for the ceremony. As always, Lucie makes me feel safe, understood and relaxed, and the ceremony done by her was done in the same way. It did so good and was a beautiful way of thanking my body.

    That evening I fell asleep so early and slept like a baby!

    I look forward to trying more of what Lucie has to offer. Not only is she talented and professional in all she does, but she holds this beautiful feminine energy with wisdom, knowledge and much respect for the female body.

    With the different offerings she has, amongst gatherings and events, she gives us the chance to surround ourselves with beaming, beautiful, likeminded souls!

  • We were surprised to be pregnant. We both had reservations about the highly medicalised pregnancies and births which are so much the norm in our times, so when a friend put us in touch with Louise and Lucinda at Maternal Traditions we started to explore the possibility of natural and free birth.

    From the start we connected with their approach. The combination of a nature-orientated common sense with an emphasis on empowerment through us realising our own responsibility in taking decisions, these made our journey of pregnancy and birth our journey, rather than some kind of anonymous process in a big machine.

    We were blessed with a relatively trouble free pregnancy, helped by some good advice from Louise and Lucinda, particularly concerning nutrition. Exploring shared reading too, really gave us confidence that were weren’t ‘mad’ to choose this path and that we could- all being well, do this how we wanted to do it.

    The birth was straightforward, at home, with no medical intervention. Basically, we did it ourselves, and at the end of it all, amazed ourselves. The postpartum and breastfeeding help was equally invaluable, especially from Lucinda, and seeing as how we had thought relatively little about this phase beyond birth, the extent of that help was a welcome surprise.

    For anyone considering the natural/ freebirth route we’d unreservedly recommend Maternal Traditions as doulas, as indeed we would for anyone approaching childbirth from whatever standpoint.

    We have a tremendous sense of gratitude for Louise’s and Lucinda’s grounded, gentle and wise help on the journey of birthing our beautiful daughter.
